Internet Access Policy

The Library recognizes the Internet as a valuable information resource. However, inappropriate use of the equipment will result in denial of access in the future. All Library patrons must first agree to the following conditions before accessing the Internet. By using any of the library's Internet stations, you agree to all of the following terms and conditions:

  • The patron is responsible for information access to the Internet. The library will not be held responsible for the content or the accuracy of information available to patrons. As with other library materials, restriction of a child's access is the responsibility of the parent/legal guardian.
  • The Dawson Creek Municipal Public Library's purpose in providing access to the Internet is to support Library-related research and study. Users under the age of 19 must have a currently active Library card to access the Internet.
  • Any illegal use of the Internet is prohibited and may constitute a criminal offence for which the customer will bear sole responsibility. Dawson Creek Municipal Public Library is not responsible for any patron's misuse of copyrighted materials or violation of software licensing agreements.
  • The Dawson Creek Municipal Public Library has adopted both the Canadian Library Association's Statement of Intellectual Freedom and The BC Library Association's Freedom of Information policies.
  • The Library does not provide public access to electronic mail, multi-user games, Usenet news groups, Internet relay chat, video conferencing, talk utilities, file transfer or other communication-based Internet services.
  • In order to ensure virus protection and to safeguard files, personal diskettes cannot be used nor personal software installed (with no exceptions).
  • You may not attempt to access the accounts of others, or to attempt to penetrate security measures of our system or other entities' systems (hacking), whether or not the intrusion results in corruption or loss of data.
  • If the Library is made of aware of suspicious activites performed by one of our patrons, we reserve the right to suspend that patron's Library privileges, without providing a warning or reason.
